The back story…
FADE IN:
EXT. OVERGROWN FOREST – DUSK
Secretly hidden in the Santa Monica Mountain range lies the creative epicenter of 3D artist Dan Platt.
FLASH BACK:
INT. SCULPTING STUDIO – MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT
Classically trained as an anatomical sculptor and illustrator at the Philadelphia University of the Arts, this artist, weaned on a steady diet of monster movies, had a penchant for all things lurking in the shadows. In 1988, Dan focused his sculptural passions into creating iconic characters for sci-fi and horror films, video games and the toy industry. He still sleeps with the lights on.
SLAM CUT TO:
INT. SOLID IMAGE ARTS DESIGN LAB – DAY
In 1996, Dan formed Solid Image Arts, LLC, a 3D design agency committed to uncompromising attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Leveraging the strengths of traditional sculpting with state of the art digital methods, Dan consistently delivered awe inspiring toy prototypes and patterns to industry giants such as Mattel, Hasbro, Blizzard and to an array of colorful upstarts. By the end of the century, the scales tipped toward full time digital modeling and design work for consumer products, medical education models, video game animatics and special effects for film.
INTERCUT WITH:
EXT. EUROPEAN CITY SETTINGS – AFTERNOON
Refusing to sleep, Mr. Platt has lectured and conducted digital modeling seminars in Malmo Sweden, Coppenhagen, Paris, London and the U.S. Beginning in 2004, Kevin Geiger passed the coveted instructor baton, a position that he held for ten years to Dan, to teach the Advanced Character Modeling in Maya class at CalArts.
PUSH IN:
INT. DISNEY ANIMATION STUDIOS – DAY
Also in 2004, Dan Platt entered the exciting world of animation at Disney Animation Studios in Burbank, CA, as a digital modeler and visual development sculptor for Meet the Robinsons, American Dog, Bolt and other projects currently in various stages of confidential development.
